designer's own words:

F.R.O.D. is a modern appliance that combines high performances and a sustainable design approach. It is a “technological island” in an environment, the kitchen, that is more and more hybrid and integrated in a bigger living space, without formal references except for the areas where the food is stored or cook.

F.R.O.D. includes four of the big appliances that can be in a kitchen (that’s the reason of the name…): freezer, refrigerator (divided in 2 compartment with different temperatures), superheated steam oven and microwave, steam dishwasher. The idea of combine all this appliances is to reproduce a heat pump that can use at best the energy involved in the overall processes and at the same time optimize the production cost. That’s why the condenser coil is enclosed in a water tank that is used to produce the steam for the oven and the dishwasher. This two last appliances uses technologies that are developed during the last years and are ready for production – technological references are the University of Technology Sydney and Sharp Corporation. The most part of the technological components are in the bottom and in the back of the product.

At the base of F.R.O.D. are placed two drawers with different sensors for humidity and temperature and artificial light that are used to grow aromatic herbs.
