designer's own words:

Hotplates are a set of heated placemats that keep your food warm during your meal. Whether your food has just been freshly cooked or sitting around the kitchen, it can be kept warm to make sure your food does not go cold.

Hotplates are a series of 5 placemats used to place hot dishes on or dishes that need to be warmed up. Pots, plates, bowls and even drinks can be warmed up. The hotplates are then easily charged by just placing them into the charger and a ring grip makes handling easier.

Hotplates are powered by a magnetic induction charger. When the plates are placed around the pin they switch off and are automatically charged. A light indicates the charging state of the plates. A red light indicates that is it fully charged and as it fades out this signifies that the batteries are weak. The plates are automatically activated when pressure is placed upon them and heats up for half an hour before being recharged.

Hotplates make general kitchen use easier by offering a solution that does not currently exist on the market. It provides a solution to warming food rather than using a microwave or a stove. The plates emit a heat of 45 degrees, which is warm enough to heat food without burning users. The heat pads have a rubbery texture to prevent objects from slipping off.

Hotplates are constructed from a Valox resin which is ideal for this application because it has good heat resistance and the charger is constructed from ABS.

Hotplates are the evolution of placemats.
