designer's own words:

Urban habitation density promotes smaller multifunctional spaces. These efficient rooms tend to feel busy and cluttered. Pieces of furniture are used to create cocoons of rest in these houses, but can take away light. This illuminated room divider, iLudi, doesn't.
Its translucent character during the day, and usable light source at night provides this warmth and coziness, while still creating a seperate area within these spaces.
With its timeless design, iLudi brings light to the lives of people, using LED as its light source.

iLudi makes optimal use of LEDs.
The high power LEDs are mounted on the aluminum frame, which ensures efficient cooling. TIR lenses distribute the LEDs' light to a single beam to avoid loss when entering the lighting blocks.
Those blocks are made from PMMA and are infused with nano-particles to diffuse the light in a lambertion distribution.
Two of the four sides are covered with reflectors to prevent stray light to exit the blocks where it is not useful. The bottom is concave to redistribute the light so it can enter the next block in line.
This optical treatment enables the use of a minimal amount of LEDs, and distributing the light in a useful manner.
