designer's own words:

HEARTBEAT is a devise that creates a new channel of communication between people.
researching communication today, we noticed that people are communicating through external tools only- we communicate through images, words, sound and touch. our gold was to create internal communication that will lead to a new experience between human-beings. the devises purpose in not to replace the existing channels, but to create a new channel that will challenge the ways we communicate and experience one another. communication with our heart beats.

device 1\\ GIVER
in the device there is a microphone that records the person heartbeats. the mike is surrounded by special silicon which sticks to the body and create a sterile environment for the sounds. through the smartphone bluetooth, the beats can be send away to the other person anywhere he may be.
the device is recording constantly.

device 2\\ RECEIVER
the receiver is based on the transducer technology which turns sounds into vibrations. once the device is being held pressed on the body, vibrations are being transported to the chest (thorax) area. due to the chest biology and structure, it functions as a soundbox. the person holding the device feels as if another heart is beating inside his body.

when we started our research, be tried to define a new language to this new kind of communication. we listened to 30 different people׳s heartbeats and mapped them (image #5). we realized that just like people have unique voices, their heartbeats are dB and tempo are unique as well. we mapped the subjects according to the speed of their pulse which is represent by the color of the circle. and according to the strength of the beats, represent by size of the circle.

our research is still ongoing. we hold a strong believe that design has the power to enhance the senses through technology. communicating with our senses is a new field that we can't waite to explore more about.
