invisible green, in visible green

invisible green, in visible green by kayeon kim from korea

designer's own words:

We can hear and see "green" everywhere, but it's an abstract idea. Though governments and multinational companies are making efforts to protect our environment, it seems distant and unachievable because of extensive damage. Futility equals non activity, because hope seems relentless, people will feel helpless in the fight to recover mother earth. But a green life and earth starts from small selfless actions like saving water, recycling, and avoiding disposal goods. It only takes two to three minutes. If everyone contributes to these small green actions, it will make a difference and we can return to a green world.

The message of this poster is very simple. When you see this poster 3 or 4 meters away, it looks like a green poster that contains the main copy ‘in visible green’. But if you move closer to the poster, you can see hundreds of blue dots on a yellow background. The typography ‘in visible green’ is also a group of dots. I applied the effect of optical illusion for this work. We can see the word ‘green’ as a mass that is an association of dots. Actually there is no green color in this poster. The color looks green, but it's just a combination of cyan and yellow from the halftone dots principle.

It is easy to think our efforts will never change the world to green. But you can see the miracle of a green life in this poster. Small dots as 3, 4 mm gather and gather, finally form a massive green lump. In a long term view, we can live ‘in visible green’ world where it starts from small invisible green activities.

If I have to say one thing more, only 2 colors are used for this poster unlike any other printed work. They are yellow & cyan. As you know, ‘Reduction’ is a basic way to a green life with ‘Reuse’ and ‘Recycle’. I want to talk about the importance of daily green activities for our environment. And I want to start a small green revolution like this work as a graphic designer for our earth.
