Kinetika I

Kinetika I by Aviv Shany from spain

designer's own words:

Kinetica experiments with perception by creating objects that transgress expectations, which surprises people and forces them to cognitively engage with the pieces. Wooden objects are usually associated with qualities such as strength and constancy but Kinetica aims to challenge these preconceptions. The cuts reduce the previously static mass and at the same time transforms it by adding movement and dynamism. Repetitive movements and patterns are known to aid relaxation, the objects are meant to stimulate feelings of tranquility and peacefulness from viewers and users.

Kinetica tries to elicit the possibilities from an organic element, to peel away the conventional categorisation and reveal that which is hidden within. All the pieces are transformed and an attempt is made to make this transtition part of their intrinsic nature.

There is a constant challenge to the conventional boundaries of art and design, creating an anarchic discipline. The work is transformative.
The users find themselves surprised and serene, which is the signature combination of the works.

Kinetika applied as products:
Kelly is ideal for the reception area of a home; to leave one's keys and receive a moving “Hello” as it responds touch. Its legs are made of metal tubes, which are cut, giving them ‘groovy’ flexibility.
Noa is a Stool constructed of parts that fit together using only white glue for fixing. It does not have any screws. The user can moves backwards and forwards as a result of the cuts in its structure. It imitates the soft and relaxing movement of a rocking chair.
Sofi is unlike other lamps, it does not have a single, fixed position. The cuts allow light to leak out, imitating an egg cracking open and showing glimpses of what is hidden within. Sofi is a portable lamp that due to its electrical system it has 10 hours autonomy without being connected.
