designer's own words:

In January 2011, Haiti was hit by an earthquake of enormous magnitude. The number of injuries and fatalities topped 250,000 and the number of evacuees was over 1 million in total. The temporary shelters were usually tents set up in large, open areas, but the conditions in these temporary shelters were harsh and inadequate. In March 2011, two months after the Haiti earthquake, another massive earthquake hit Japan.
In an instant, 330,000 people lost their homes. Most of these people ended up living in the auditoriums of nearby schools. Because the temporary residences were in completely open spaces, none of the evacuees had any kind of privacy.
Similar disasters have occurred in New Zealand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and in other parts of the world.
Unfortunately, such disasters will continue to arise, as will evacuations and loss of homes.

‘Living Motion _ Origami zip’ is a “Temporary Shelter” which improves the living conditions of temporary evacuees of natural disasters. Origami zip is designed to fold and fit into an SUV.And also designed to be effectively transported to relief sites in large shipments and 40 of them can be shipped in one cargo container.

If this project were to be used to help the evacuees in Japan, they would have been able to keep their personal privacy.
