maru batsu – unplug by ori takemura from russia

Maru and Batsu are among the most intuitively clear symbols for every Japanese person. Maru (“O”) resembles something “correct”, it is also used to mark your choice between multiple variants. While Batsu (“X”) is used to mark wrong variants, errors and mistakes. Posters are about the choice every one makes, they all are around energy theme. As energy consuming is something that can be changed only if we start from our selves. Tag line is: “Please make a right choice…”. For the set of three posters I have designed 8 simple and pictorial icons. Blue color is chosen because Maru also resembles earth here and Batsu something harmful.

Not very one knows that tuned off eclectic appliance does continue to consume, those on stand by consumes even more energy, but even if you know that, you sometimes don’t unplug. And this is wrong, that is what this poster is about. Unplug!
