MillFoldInsert SYSTEM

FOR CDs
PROTOTYPE

As an architect one must not invent everything by oneself, as long as there are products from designers on the market to buy.

But have you ever looked for a decent shelf for your CD collection? One that needs minimum space and can hold a maximum number of CDs?

You will find everything, from dancing columns to humorous stacking containers, glass towers, plexiglas boxes, wooden containers and metal cases.
But what if someone - like my husband - is not looking for fun, has lots of CDs and not much space?

That was the reason I had to get to work myself.

The first designs were too much dependent on the work of a metalworker, a carpenter or an acrylic-glas firm and they would result in too high production costs. So I tried to find a way to bypass that. The solution was a prefabricated item, that can be assembled by oneself at home.

An Aluminum composite sheet (Alucobond or similar) will be CNC milled by the manufacturer company according to the DWG or DXF files. The fold lines will be carved out in v-sections, the slots cut out. These flat sheets will be stacked and shipped.
You will do the rest:

The main sheet will fold easily and precisely along the milled lines to form the body.
The shelves are bent once in the middle, inserted into the slots, and voila!

The whole item can be dismantled, flattened and stored or transported again.
It is an ideal item for mail order, because of its compactness for shipping.

The dimensions are reduced to minimum; shelves are slightly narrower than the CDs so that there is enough space between two rows to pull them out easily.

The chosen Geometry provides stability and at the same time eliminates the need for any extra screws or consoles.

A unit of 1100 mm l x 870 mm h x 135 mm d can hold up to 600 CD's.
