Nowadays humans are losing direct contact with one another; relationships have become more virtual and are less personally involved. The same applies for our relationship with objects of use: we select and buy, what others have designed and constructed, choosing those shapes which please us the most, but wouldn’t it be better if we could shape the objects ourselves?

My MODELlight is a design based on 4 components, in which the base layer is a translucent, moldeable rubber (non toxic), housing a LED. Part of this is wrapped in a adhesive rubber, which by contact with saliva, allows for it to be stuck anywhere, much like chewing gum. In light of hygiene issues, this adhesive rubber is fully washable and replaceable.

MODELlight as such is a forming part of the environment, emitting fragrances, as are applied by the user on the outer part of the Led in a capsule. Used in this way, it can be used by any and everyone, irrespective of age.

Because the LED of the MODELlight is powered by kinetic actuators, it doesn’t need an external power source: just shake it, kick it, rub it. The amount of kinetic energy applied also influences the color achieved, so one can just keep on playing till they have the color they want.

MODELlight is something to light up the 5 senses in a direct, playful and interactive manner, which is something we could all have more of.
