nest tile

nest tile by pete matthews from netherlands

designer's own words:

Since the early 1970's, Swallow and Housemartin bird populations have been in decline throughout central and northern Europe. Suggested causes include the reduced availability of nest materials and nesting sites. This roof 'nest-tile' concept addresses these issues.

Fitting alongside other standard roof tiles, these handmade, terracotta 'nest-tiles' provide nesting sites on otherwise under-utilized rooftops. To reduce heating from the sun, a lightly coloured, reflective glaze is applied to the upper surface of the nest-tiles.
