new generation light rail in the capital by ADAM MOLNAR from hungary

designer's own words:

New generation Light rail for the Capital is my degree project in which I rethink the carriages of this fixed track vehicle creating a contemporary appearance and function for the local interest railway (HÉV) trains. The candidate took into consideration various professional areas as well as the foreseeable traffic of the next thirty years. According to the design the trains will consist of a single long carriage—instead of the three-carriage version now in use—with a seating capacity of 320-350. The project’s innovation is the harmonisation of technology and ergonomy: the mechanical equipment will be atop the carriage, thus, allowing more space for the low-floor passenger area and enabling a faster passenger flow. The use of a wheel hub engine resulted in a slightly raised floor above the bogie: the more comfortable seats installed in this area are suitable for passengers travelling long distances. This design is competitive with the most state-of-the-art models in the world in regard to form and structure; moreover, it can potentially be fully manufactured in Hungary. The design focuses on functionally and the simplicity of formal elements as opposed to attractiveness, and it is characterised by a traditional harmony of form and colour that users can easily understand. This project, which is definitely worth further development, seeks an answer to and provides an alternative for a real problem by offering a solution through the integration of various areas of design and the co-operation of various fields both at the concept and implementation levels.
