When there's no time for a proper meal, vitamins can be bought as health supplements. But what happens when there's no time for relationships?

Research show total marriages per year have dropped by approximately 25 per cent since 1981, with divorce rates increasing by 22 per cent since 1951. Britain’s birth rate has decreased by around 5 percent with a population increase of only 6 per cent between 1971 and 2002.

Depending on the person, the dog can form different levels of relationships. For a child, the dog can be a substitute for a sibling, a friend or parental company while their parents are at work. For those who are unmarried or those married but childless or those whose children have grown or left, or indeed young couples the dog will be treated like a child.

In the same way as one can purchase accessories and additional companions for Barbie dolls, will consumers be able to purchase accessories which creates hyperreal relationships? Let us try to imagine when certain hyperreal dog relationships become a commodity product and consumers have the choice to decide which experience to indulge in. Specific relationships can perhaps be purchased as supplements to aid one in fulfilling certain needs, resulting in a new form of hyperreality.
