Pyrami3D - category n.2 'Wrappings of mortality'

Pyrami3D is a new concept for urn, inspired by the archetypal form of the tomb, according to the geometric proportions of the funeral monument par excellence: the pyramid of Cheops in Egypt.

It was meant to be printed with a Rep-Rap 3D printer, using a wire of PLA (polylactid acid), a biodegradable thermoplastic material of plant origin.

The main feature of Pyrami3D resides in the manufacturing process: in fact the insertion of the ashes of the loved once occurs during the printing phase of the container itself, before the printer seals the chosen shape permanently. It can only be produced using a desktop 3D printer, that allows direct interaction on the printed piece. In this way, through the steps of a new liturgy, the digital fabrication joins direct human interaction, in a farewell before the final goodbye.

The size can vary, adaptable to the amount of ash that urn must contain: an adult, a child or a small pet. Even the shape can be declined, structured to contain the symbols of a proper religion or designed on the basis of geometric principles. This form could be chosen not only at the request of the family, but everyone, before his own death, could model his own file, leaving it as a legacy.

In a post-modern vision of the post-mortem reality, the digital artifact, ephemeral and at the same time eternal, it becomes the wrapper that enables memory and preserves it.

Pyrami3D is designed to be implemented in a new front-desk based service that will ensure a wider spread of this new deathcare technique. From medium to long term, it will be possible to build a comprehensive database that collects the entire sample of the generated urns, in order to optimize the process and ensure the traceability of memories in a huge digital necropolis.
