“ QUATRE ” A reinterpretation of the Renault 4 for the coming green years

My parents first car was a Renault 4, a Quatrelle as we all know by its nickname. Sometimes I regret I was not born at this time. By watching their pictures traveling trough northern Africa I thought: What a car, maybe that’s The car: the Quatrelle made the dream of a children come true : a simple box, four wheels and a driving wheel allowing you to drive the world ! Then I rode several times in this model: sometimes ones of friends parents and some other times on friends first car, still here, like a real Time machine going trough the years.

There is no map to take the way to iconic design, no recipe to get this bit of magic making the meeting with the feeling of a time.

The Renault 4 has been thought, from the very beginning, from the very first stroke till the last screw and bolt assembling the last parts with the ambition to be the personal car ever (economic, reliable, low maintenance) allowing one – who ever he/she is – to drive from a point A to a point B – wherever they are. From the “stroke of genius” to the last parts, this global design targeting the blue jean car came out with the car of its time.

However, the most obvious thing is that this car must always be the car of its time keeping this balance of technology and efficiency and as we all know time as changed a lot in our lives concerning energy and socio-cultural behaviours wether we live quickly or slowly.

''Quatre'' is a full electric powered car equipped with two batteries allowing to drive around 700 km by switching them. You can either charge the quatre at home during a while or a night, or you can just buy energy credits by giving and changing your batteries at light Renault energy terminals on your way, a service supplied by Renault.

The electric battery is to be inserted frontward, and so is the car's main element giving the best accessibility with a generous metal handle keeping the philosophy of efficiency developed in the original Renault 4.

Lines are simple and efficient, putting forward the functionality. The previous angular design is present, as a recognizable shadow, but slightly transformed into smooth curves reminding friendly the Quatrelle's character, turned into a sensual and modern car, taking advantage of the technology of our time.

The reliability of the simplest mechanic and minimal interior is kept, allowing an easy manufacturing and giving a warm inviting feeling similar to some contemporary furniture pieces.

Linen fabric will provide a singular interior. A central removable screen tablet manages your geographical and music activities. When you have to do maintenance, this tablet becomes your maintenance book.

Roof options are available: a complementary solar energy roof, and a luggage box.

Finally, as the famous R4 was, Quatre is versatile and can receive an extension box converting the car in a utlility service vehicule.
