designer's own words:

a cabriolet sport utility vehicle
an interchangeble car, berlina, wagon, small van or cabrio to suit your daily desires and needs. elegant and sporty, fashionable but also funny.
a rational car, a bright car, a quick-change car for your job and your times of fun. the renault 4 for the future will use new technologies, respecting the environment. a body shell made from recyclabe materials forms the base for the different configurations. the body's panels are made from coloured biodegradable plastic so everyone can customise their own R4 to suit their own personalty. every r4 would be a unique as an artist's work. the r4 is powered by the latest technology electric motor. the battery is recharged both through the common electric grid, but also on the move through, photovoltaic panels on the horizontal parts of the car (like roof and bonnet), the kers system Kinetic Energy Recovery System, recovering power from the brakes as well as air convergence, windpower generated from withing the headlamp housings. when added to the car's lightness these adavnced power recovery and generation systems allow for a far greater range with zero impact.

CAPTION 1 front view
an innovative design, respecting the new renault's guidelines but with strong references to the past.the big round lights and the elliptic grille are the core caracteristics of our r4.they give the r4 the feel of a friendly and reliable car and pay homage to the ledgend of the original.

CAPTION 2 side view
the lateral layout is typical of the old R4: Two volumes with large lateral windows and the classical isosceles trapezium shape window of the original. The battery box and propulsive system's placement optimises the interior space making it part of the under bonnet area available as luggage space. The door's panels are easily dismantled from the inside making possible the fast customising suggested above.

CAPTION 3 rear view
The rear light cluster drawing respects that of the old R4. The large hatchback allows considerable unobstructed loading access. The oval element on the bottom is an interchangeble as are the lateral door elements.Pulling a handle on the grey part exposes a large storage unit used for the spare wheel that can double as worktop, or bed base by also pulling down back seats. A tent kit fixed on the open hatchback can turns the R4 into a comfortable tent.

CAPTION 4 interior view
Rationality, brightness, and space: these are the three strenghs of the interior of the new R4 while the possibility to transform itself is its unique trick. Five thin fold flat seats gives a huge load volume, its possible to remove the seats completely to transform the practical berlina into a handy pickup. The cockpit is similar to the old R4's with a classic two spoke wheel and linear dashboard. In addition we use bioplastics and natural textiles for seats, while the characteristic high mounted dash gear stick of the original is replaced by a mouse to manage all the onboard systems.

CAPTION 5 single door and sliding windows
The roof panels are made of solar materials that can be folded, so our R4 berlina can change into a cabrio. The big sliding door and the absence of central door pillars make entry and exit a breeze. Windows slide as in the old R4: The removal of window mechanisms. allowing further large weight savings to add to the cars economy.

CAPTION 6 configuration
Berlina, cabrio, small van, with the Frog and just one boby you have four models thanks to its clever structure.
