The idea behind ‘rise above’ is to change perception of the homeless while increasing public awareness and providing the inhabitant a sense of security and pride that he/she may never feel sleeping elsewhere on the street. The extremely visible position over head, beyond the reach of anyone walking by is intended to reverse fundamental human perceptions that what is beneath you on the ground is both literally and figuratively beneath you as a person.
