designer's own words:

's Gaaf*

Creating a table out of a tree isn't too difficult when you let the wood dry properly, cut it into straight pieces and nail these back together in the desired furniture piece.

I on the other hand try to make a table whilst eliminating most of the steps described above. The joint between the tree trunk and its benches is already quite strong and beautiful, so why not use it? I cut a tree in half, turn it 90 degrees and then I plane until I've reached the ultimate shape. It's not me who forces the thee in a predesigned shape, it's the tree that challenges to work with what it offers. Therefore non of these solid pieces of furniture will ever come out the same.

* 'Schaaf' is the instrument craftsmen use to plane wood. 's Gaaf sounds the same in the Dutch language, but means something else. Translating a word joke is tricky, but in English language you can compare it with the word cool.
