Seeing Through Touch

Seeing Through Touch by PD University of Oregon Intro To Studio from usa

designer's own words:

The tile was designed by a group of students at the University of Oregon. By observing the blind in public bathrooms, students developed floor tiles, which are installed below raised objects to creating a “shadow” out of the tiles alerting sightseeing cane users of the objects presence. This addresses a problem the blind encounter when entering public restrooms and having to use their hands to find objects covered with germs. Students worked with a blind student in testing effectiveness and need for the tiles. This proved the designs success therefore identifying the need for universal design that creates measurable and positive changes and pushes the need for revision and additions to ADA guidelines.
