Shugosha by Trishala from india

designer's own words:

It is said that the Japanese culture is fading away due to Modern influences. The kimono once considered the window to Japanese culture is being replaced by western outfits. The Weavers are loosing jobs and are scared to pass the techniques to their offsprings because of which there are only few Weavers left in japan who could make a kimono from scratch. But how can they help in saving their tradition? What if, the Designers approach the Weavers and ask them to put their emotions on the weave of the Obi, this would help the designers to capture the personas of the weavers into a traditional wooden toy. The toy is only complete if the Obi (consist of a battery powers when attached to the toy) is attached to it. This toy is Shugosha who is the Companion of the child and the Protector of the night. The Shugosha reveals the emotions of the weaver to the child at night and making him aware of his culture. This would also help to spread the message to the parents which will revive their emotions to their culture. The Shugosha is a Kimono weaver who not only acts as a Companion for the child but it becomes Guardian of the Dark and Protector of the Tradition
