the purple dragon

the purple dragon by nicholas musser from usa

designer's own words:

the purple dragon considers how to provide a greater street presence for bus stops. bus lines are an integral component for any functioning city, yet they are relatively invisible compared to rail lines. visualizing the bus route as something more permanent within the traffic flow could encourage their use in cities where buses are not as popular as their counterparts (rail-lines).

this lighting scheme displays the status of the next arriving bus. As the bus approaches the intensity of light increases.

2_detail_from_behind_copy.jpg LED’s would be embedded in the curb and reflective street paint marks the moment where buses stop. the LED’s reflect off the paint emphasizing the presence of the bus lane.

3_walking_down_the_street_copy.jpg a grid of LED’s would also be embedded in the sidewalk to notify passersby of the specific bus route approaching the stop.
