designer's own words:
the new logo represents an open notebook which symbolizes an open view of the world, new technologies, media and future communications. within the composition of the new logo is the old recognizable notebook. it is in an entirely different form, however, as the cover reminds the viewer of a roof of a structure which represents typographic elements called moleskine. moleskine represents firm bracing. the font the word moleskine is a capital and massive font which has the purpose of reassuring the viewer and to keep their trust. the whole sign is designed as a reminder of a monumental structure, where the word moleskine a pillar-bracing, an open stylized notebook that represents not only a product, but also a view of the world and the future of new media.
