toucher

toucher by jozef seman from czech republic

designer's own words:

Human touch is a natural part of our lives, as well as human voice or visual perception. Unlike these senses has not yet been possible to make touch at a distance. The presented device would open new dimension of interaction between two or several persons. This revolutionary design would introduce possibility of human sense transmission remotely using intelligent technologies.

The principle would be based on device ability to follow movement of hand as well as fingers in 3D. This movement will be then transferred in near real time to the receiver and vice versa that finally would create virtual touch. The virtual touch will be sensed and received by means of deformation pad containing metal springs sensitive to press. The electromagnetic actuator would convert the deformation into digital signal further transferred via data network. The springs would be arranged in grid of human hand size and protected by plastic covers. Any deformation on sender side would be transferred to receiver side where it will be converted to mirror deformation that would interact with receiving person hand.

The device would be for example appropriate for families, which members are separated from each other, for the disabled people or people in hospital for whom is touching hand of loved one huge support and many times only way of communication. Last but not least, the toucher would introduce an opportunity to touch the hand of loved one, with who just ‘virtually’ fall in love even he or she is on the other side of the world.
