designer's own words:

Dear Jury

With this I want to present to you: "UNIX"

UNIX is a doorhandle with focus on ”Multiple Design & Efficiency” Multiple Design, through the possibility of combining parts with different materials/colours in one product. Efficiency, by creating a product with as litte parts as possible which is easy to install!

This entry consists of 9 parts of which 5 parts are different. The handle itself and the roseplate are built up in geometric shapes which are produced in one piece. That means that the rose is ”fixed” with the handle. This technique has the advantage that you don’t need connect the rose with the door. To create a smooth movement and to protect the door surface from scratch marks, this concept uses 2 plastic disks on either side of the door in-between the rose/handle, which functions as a type of ”bearing”. Both handles are mounted to the axle with a conical screw, which means that the axle is a separate part that can be used as an extra ornament on the handle. For example by producing it in a different material or colour (Multiple Design). Also the “bearing disks” (although almost invisible) can be used as an ornament, when produced in different colours.

The design is modern with a hint of nostalgia. Equally important are the way of producing and fitting. Because this technique can be implemented on almost any design!

Best regards,

Gabriël
