designer's own words:

the point of departure for the design of versa was our notion that a door handle should be sufficiently simple but must also have subtle aspect to put it apart from the fast stock.
in our architectural practice we are often searching for items with these qualities to make them work with the architectural or interior design.
it is this aspect of the specific against the universality of the design that we have been investigating in this design. the solution we have found concentrates in the first place on the ergonomic grip of the handle. this resulted in this specific thickening in the middle that should add grip and give a pleasant feel when touched.
the other aspect is the stressing of the design of the elbow point, there where the handle changes direction. in our analysis these are important opportunities to realize the above described concept. a multitude of possible materials and finishes or material combinations would make this design applicable in a wide range of interior along the demands of the profession.
