X2

X2 by Laurindo Marta from portugal

designer's own words:

X2 is a foldable shelf made with strips of beechwood, linked with brass rods that work as axels of the structure.

The strips of wood are intercalated, forming two parts, each one moving independently of the other, enabling an unlimited variety of forms.

This shelf is lightweight, allows to move in any direction, and being foldable it´s easy to carry as it is to stow.

The X2 is a handmade shelf formed with 54 strips of beechwood, disposed in parallel, bonded in the 18 points of connection that form the axels. Each strip measures 1meter long, per 2 centimeters wide and 2 centimeters high; has 3 holes (diameter of 4 milimeters) two in the tops and the other one in the middle. The finishing is made by sanding each one of the strips and varnished with colorless, mate varnish.

Each one of the brass rods measures 17,5 centimeters long per 4milimeters diameter; has two threads, one in each side, where the screw-nuts will attach to hold the 9 strips. By tightening the screw-nuts the user will define and fix the desired form.
