portuguese architect andreia garcia has developed the set design ‘earth wire’ as part of a contemporary ballet for the 2012 european capital of culture in guimarães, portugal . influenced by the town’s traditional embroidery, the suspended architectural volume consists of 600 metres of transparent hose designed to cover and wrap the performers. the endless hose-line diffuses an absorption of light where its capacity of mutation, creates different moments of transparency, colour and movement. structured together by 800 panels of intricate weaves, the handcraft scenography benefits from of the tracery seduction and the power of a contemporary materiality.
