the clutch lead holder is an all-aluminum sketching pencil designed by chicago-based designer andrés lemus. it is a well crafted, simple and elegant lead holder built to feel natural in your hands. the writing utensil accepts 5.6mm lead which is much thicker than a traditional pencil, but allows for quick and easy freehand sketching. it is built from only two simple pieces, a high-quality interior grip mechanism and a solid, tapered aluminum body. the aluminum form is made from solid 6061 aluminum- the same material used in aircraft construction, bicycle frames, and automotive parts. this piece is lathed, shaped, formed and anodized for added durability. the result is a writing utensil that has a unique and comfortable texture completely unrepresented by other lead holders currently available. since it is crafted from solid aluminum the clutch lead holder is slightly heavier than the traditional pencil, weighing in at 52g (1.8oz.) – however this extra weight falls primarily in the lead holder’s tapered body which puts most of the weight in the hand while in use, and allows the sketching pencil to move easily and freely across paper.
