fade stool in deep purple

 

 

 

a coil of stitched cotton cord is cleverly bound to a wooden plate and powder-coated steel base to form the structure of the ‘fade stool’ by catherine aitken. light both visually and physically, the furniture piece was developed over a span of three months in copenhagen in which the british designer was engaged closely with craftsman in a danish art workshop located in the christianshavn area of the danish capital.

responding to the concept of ‘fade’, aitken’s stackable stool explores a gradual change in intensity through increasing and decreasing levels of color through altering the materials presence via a variety of wrapping and binding techniques, her process material led and intuitive.
