‘floating sauna’ by portugese designer jose freitas explores the prokopske valley in prague. the developers JRD, wanted to create something to attract attention of this forgotten area in the municipality. the ravine, once an industrial area, is now a place covered by nature, converted into national protected areas. the task was to consider small interventions which could improve the use of the basin, attracting people to this nature scenario. after evaluation and research, the decision was to use the lake as a landmark for the whole canyon.

the box can be parked on the lake’s entrance to let people access it and explore the different areas of the basin themselves. the fireplace is located in the center of the reservoir, in a central platform so people can park the sauna’s and set the fire. this mitigates a place for the stones that will not set fire to the forest and allows the visitors the ability to cool down in the water or rest on the benches and admire the atmosphere.
