‘nine x nine’ by knauf & brown, darryl agawin

d calen knauf and conrad brown of vancouver-based design studio knauf & brown have conceived the ‘nine x nine’ collection
in collaboration with darryl agawin. constrained by the dimensions of an apartment measuring 81 sqft, the use of a wireframe-style
construction opens up the room wherever possible. the dwelling integrates modular furniture systems to maximize functionality
and optimize space efficiency. produced using locally sourced fir and plywood, the series provides a wardrobe, desk, side table
and drawer that can be flat packed and assembled on-site to reduce material and shipping costs.

by orienting the hanger rack so that the clothes face the user instead of the conventional method, the wardrobe unit can be paired
down to 12 inches deep, taking up less of a footprint into the room. the construction utilizes three support beams instead of four,
so hanging clothes can be accessed more easily. to reduce visual clutter and broaden the spatial footprint, a cable well behind
the desk is incorporated so users can keep more important things on the desk and power cords out of sight. the inclusion of
modularity transforms an existing side table into an umbrella holder or magazine holder by orienting it in different positions.
