cypriot lambrianou koutsolambros architects have upgraded an existing villa in tsada by adding external floor space to accommodate the mediteranean climate with their project ‘aphrodite’s lounge’. a new platform was constructed at the main level of the house, projecting boldly over the cliff in order to enhance the view. as a result, a grand canyon influenced skybridge that offers breathtaking views of the sunset and the whole of pafos coastline was built. the structure was designed for lightness and a sail was installed above for shade, where all the balustrades on the view facing side of the pool terrace were replaced with glass positioned externally on the framework.

the lounge by night

the name and the phrase "between sky and sea" in languages of the mediterranean sea and europe were used for the composition of the cloud of words can be viewed from every point and side of the glass. underlighting was used beneath the glass to add to the floating feeling providing at the same time indirect lighting to the adjacent floor areas. perforated metal screens were used for the side privacy fence in the form of independent fins to enhance views with no sacrifice to privacy. they were fine-tuned on site to focus on specific views. the same pattern was applied on the arc shaped metal gate partially revealing the forecourt of the villa.
