based on personal experience, potruguese studio micro atelier de arquitectura e arte (maarqa) has transformed a simple wooden IKEA stool into a multifunctional device. to help the students working on their thesis organize the workspace more comfortably, the team has embedded LEGO bricks into the seat so that they can fix a book on it.

‘it was very common to have a small stool near the laptop where the book in use was placed,’ explains maarqa team. ‘however, sometimes it was very difficult to keep the book open while trying to type on the computer.’

as the videos show, creating this device doesn’t require much effort — you just need to disassemble the stool, cut a couple of cavities in the seat and glue the LEGO bricks into it. once the seat is ready and the stool is assembled, the rest is left to your imagination!
