designer ola giertz, based in helsingborg, sweden has created the ‘bare hair project’. the project is about finding possibilities and functionality in that which would otherwise be considered ugly, coupled with the recycling of materials. since on average, a person’s locks grows at a pace of 18 cm per year and 9 million swedes grow about 1 620 000 meters of the stuff every year, much of it is thrown away and burnt. the creators of the seat took the opportunity to build a pouf from this waste by stuffing transparent skins made from PET bottles, which can be modified with many different tresses, highlighting the unique padding. the studio collaborated with the high-end salon västra sandgatan in sweden to realize the piece.
