soho architektur: house ke12

‘house ke12’ by soho architekturlocated in the southern parts of the historic center of memmingen, german soho architektur have built ‘house ke12’, a two-unit dwelling. designed as a ‘three-window house’, its appearance towards the street space represents the typical image of a townhouse. the contour of the mansard roof, the structural level and the footprint of the former building are adapted to today’s fabrication code requirements. a punctuated facade including a back-fill of the gable per floor, interprets a historical theme of decoration and form language.

each unit has its own access from kempter street, and each one leads through four stories from the ground floor to the attic. the arrangement of dogleg stairs in the center of the residence enables an access zone to connect the two units together towards the road and onto the private yard in the west elevation. from the second floor and on, the rooms additionally orientate themselves towards north side and respectively south side. here, a multifaceted and flexibly usable living environment with garden, balcony and roof terrace is generated, offering the amenities of living in the countryside within the middle of the city.
