Tea Break Candle Explores Stillness and Material Balance

Tea Break Candle by Carla Pan explores the relationship between material, light, and ritual. Designed for the self-care brand Chill More, the object reinterprets the act of taking a pause, blending Jingdezhen porcelain and Italian glass, capturing a dialogue between East and West.

The candle consists of a white porcelain lid and base paired with a transparent glass body. This composition establishes a dialogue between opacity and clarity, structure and fluidity. The soft curvature and compact geometry result from an iterative design process aimed at achieving formal balance rather than ornamentation.

Carla Pan frames light and warmth within a minimal form

Each porcelain component is produced in Jingdezhen and fired twice at nearly 2000 °C. The thin 3 mm walls allow candlelight to subtly diffuse through the surface, creating a tactile and visual interaction between light and material. The high-temperature firing process introduces variation, with approximately 30 percent of the pieces lost during production, an outcome that reinforces the individuality of each object.

The material combination reflects a meeting of two craft traditions: the precision and discipline of porcelain with the fluid expressiveness of glass. Designer Carla Pan crafts a contained structure that frames light and warmth within a minimal, functional form.
