the finger: an accidentally awesome dual grip stylus

steve jobs says a finger is better than a stylus. we say you shouldn’t have to choose.

ever since the ipad came out (and subsequently, the ipad 2), there’s been a fierce debate amongst its users.

on one hand, you’ve got the purists, who side with steve jobs. steve said “we are all born with the ultimate pointing device – our fingers." he also said “if you see a stylus, they blew it.”

on the other hand, you’ve got the realists: people who realize that there are some things that a stylus is just better for (writing, drawing, that sort of thing).

we decided that we wanted to find a way to bring both groups together. what we came up with is the finger.

the finger is a capacitive-touch stylus that is shaped like, well… a finger.

now you can have the best of both worlds: you can use a stylus and not feel like you’re betraying steve jobs (who is arguably the greatest man ever to pair a turtleneck with jeans). here’s where it gets interesting, though. this whole thing kinda started as a joke. we thought maybe we could make this a sort of gag gift, get a little free publicity, that sort of thing.

but then we actually had a prototype made. and we discovered that we had accidentally created something pretty incredible.

for starters, the form factor ended up being a lot cooler than we had initially anticipated.We thought it was gonna look pretty ridiculous, but then it somehow came out kinda… sexy?

but then the other thing was, we realized that we had accidentally made the only dual-grip stylus on the market, at least as far as we know. you’ve got this beefy wide grip on one end, and at the same time there’s a nice slender grip on the other end. and both ends will work on the ipad screen.

we started realizing that maybe this was bigger than just a gag gift. maybe people would actually use this thing. and when we showed it to people, we found out we were right.

everybody wanted one.

that’s where you come in.

see, if we’re going to be able to get these into mass production, it’s going to take a sizable investment.

we’re going to need injection molds, and material research, and packaging and a website and an online store and advertising and… well, you get the idea.

and all of that stuff costs money. money that we don’t have.

but if you do have money, we’re asking that you would consider giving us some of that money to help get this idea to market.

we can’t do it without you, guys.

but with your help, we can take this accidentally-awesome stylus and make it an intentionally-awesome product.
