french designer thomas merlin has developed ‘tools’ for furniture company entreautre. it is a product line of coffee tables that creates dialogue between wood and metal that takes its influence from mechanical instruments. the flexure and geometrical shapes are two inseparable elements, one for structure and the other for aesthetics. the top is created by folding three identical pieces which are then joined together but nuts and bolts. the objects are then pressed into the split ash feet and held together by wooden pins.
