a twisted table fully interlocked

this is the prototype of the twistable, an interlocking table-design. first of it’s kind, this prototype is set out to be the example for numerous future variations in size, height, number of legs, fullness, curvesize, materials, and so on. this prototype is watercut out of high quality birchpanels. Many materials can be used such as 100% recycled pvc, full wood panels, concrete top, pmma, ecoboard top, etc. the legs, arms and top were designed to make full use of the panel when cutting, with a minimal loss of material. parts are sharing contours when cutting, thus reducing cuttinglenght up to +40%. also; having two parts share one cuttingline reduces waste to allmost zero.

the whole construction is designed to interlock in such way that the weight of the table itself locks the different parts and levels the top. the two ‘gear-alike’ sliding locks in the heart of the twisted frame are designed to be able to slide in one leg sideways, using the 2D character of the sheet while transposing it to 3D appearance. the twistable is available in numerous sizes and variations.

volken de vlas designs and produces furniture and interiour objects using durable and recycled materials. in our designs, natural and recycled materials are paramount. we search for inventive and logical solutions for joining, finishing, production and use of sources and materials. in our studio we work on unique pieces and small to medium series with great eye for detail and finish.
