london-based creative studio checkland kindleysides has developed a flagship interior space that captures the spirit of the american denim producer wrangler. by reflecting on a theme that emphasizes strength and tailored freedom, specific materials contrast the inner fabric of the showroom. a unique aesthetic results from this rugged attitude; from the inherent strength of the aged steel, to the creation of a skylight and use of glass throughout the store which provides a feeling of translucency and connection to the original american outdoor denim brand.

by highlighting the history and iconography of the wrangler brand, ‘factory-styled’ window frames and various backdrops providing reference to the feature ‘demim drawing table’ display. enamel machinists lamps and factory lights are used throughout the store to showcase the product ranges, where the shelving uses patchwork of timber, including reclaimed boards, in subtle tonal colours.

adding both warmth and a contemporary twist to the brand’s american heritage, the store features navajo indian rugs, spray stencilled to the raw concrete floor as a graphic, which will develop a worn patina over time as they fade. the kiosk is constructed as an open steel framed cage and sits at the heart of the store. reminiscent of a workshop office, the design continues the industrial aesthetic. architectural cues providie a backdrop which bring wrangler’s denim to life, resulting in a store experience that is pared back, and raw.
