walky iphone robot controller
walky is a new operating method for small robots which uses the iphone’s touchscreen and natural gestures. the project is being developed at the graduate school of media design at keio university in tokyo. the system uses the touch sensitive screen built into the iphone allowing users to control robots using more natural gestures. getting the device to walk requires a walking motion with you fingers, a kicking motion equals kicking and tapping makes the robot jump. the project aims to make it easier to control robots, without requiring complex controllers, which are hard to learn. the project is best suited for small robots but the researchers are also thinking it would be useful for controller digital characters.
