Product Description

Karim Rashid’s design for this pen is roughly based on an iconic wooden sculpture by Romanian born, modernist artist Constantin Brancusi.

It takes its name, “Kuzi”, from the last 4 letters of the sculptors’ last name. To emphasize this legacy, Mr. Rashid chose colored celluloid; a material that has been used in pen making for many decades to express the pen’s shape, yet the pen looks and feels extremely modern.

The pen is presented in a clear acrylic tube with Rashid’s signature screen printed.

  • Founded in 1985 by husband-and-wife team Adrian Olabuenaga and Lesley Bailey, ACME Studio launched with a limited-edition collection of jewelry designed by Peter Shire, a member of the world-renowned Memphis Group.  This graduated to working with all fourteen Memphis Designers such as Andrea Branzi, Michele De Lucchi and Ettore Sottsass (who later designed their home in Maui, Hawaii).   The collection debuted at the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in 1986, alongside the MEMPHIS touring show, which made its last stop at the museum before returning to Italy. Now, many pieces from this collection can be found in the permanent collections of museums around the world; the entire series holds a place in the permanent collection of the Groninger Museum in Holland.   In 1997, ACME released their first collection of fine writing tools.  Being the creative team they are and always on the forefront of design, this allowed them freedom to work with globally recognized architects to artists; musicians to tattooists; and even with Apple Corps, Ltd. For a project with The Beatles and the Le Corbusier Foundation to develop modern, timeless designs for these instruments of expression alongside watches, cufflinks, card cases, and small leather goods.   With the need for creatives to use their hands, minds and hearts beyond the technical computer devices, in 2013, ACME developed 7FP, the world’s thinnest seven function pen.   ACME receives accolades and nominations consistently and is proud of the two 2009 National Design Award nominations in Corporate Achievement by the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum and in 2010, in two categories: Product Design and Corporate Achievement.  In 2012 ACME won the Japanese Good Design Award and in 2013 won the Good Design Award for “Hatch” from The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, the world’s first antimicrobial pen.   ACME Studio has elevated the standard for fine writing instruments by pushing the boundaries of production while maintaining the highest standard of quality and integrity. From the strong relationships ACME builds with their artists and designers to the company’s inspiring facilities in Maui, ACME Studio has earned a place as a recognized leader in superior product design. www.acmestudio.com
