MODES OF HABITATION gathers stories on architects, designers and thinkers reconsidering domesticity as a laboratory for living together differently. Moving beyond the sealed nuclear household and the invisible systems of labor that have long sustained it, we look at how the places we inhabit are being redrawn: from a single shared table and collective housing to walkable neighborhoods, adaptive reuse, bioregional settlements and habitats imagined beyond Earth.

Looking back at utopian experiments and forward to regenerative ways of living, this chapter asks what happens when the boundaries of home begin to shift. Space may not dictate who we are, but the environments we build organize our routines, relationships and ideas of community.
