SPECTATOR AND SPECTACLE

What if we are not overwhelmed by spectacle, but starved of it?

SPECTATOR AND SPECTACLE gathers stories on architects, designers and artists exploring how wonder is constructed, performed and experienced. In a world increasingly measured, optimized and made predictable, we look at spaces, objects and gestures that interrupt the everyday: from radical discotheques conceived as instruments of sociopolitical change and garments that turn the body into an act of rebellion, to exhibitions staged like psychodramas, immersive installations and public artworks that bring a city to a standstill.

Moving between architecture, fashion, art and performance, this chapter considers the shifting relationship between those who create the spectacle and those who witness it.

This chapter is presented in partnership with SolidNature – reimagining natural stone beyond the expected, giving an ancient material new relevance and context in today’s world, while creating wonder.
