the nakagin capsule tower in tokyo is an iconic building envisioned by architect kisho kurokawa in 1972. composed of 140 small, prefabricated living units (capsules) attached to the exterior of the towers, the 13-floor landmark is a prime example of metabolist architecture, a significant movement that emerged in post-war japan. the central towers and most of the capsules were demolished in october 2022.
