THE DESIGN PRIZE 2021 (11 articles)
THE DESIGN PRIZE is an annual award program that celebrates excellence on a global scale. initiated in 2017 and curated by designboom, with patronage by the milan city council, THE DESIGN PRIZE recognizes both the extraordinary achievements and little sparks of beauty and delight that have emerged over the past 12 months. winners are awarded across 10 interdisciplinary categories: social impact; distribution; communication; in the artistic realm; exhibition; experimentation; design curator/design critic; best design newcomer; best designer; and lifetime achievement.
after three fantastic gala events, held during milan design weeks in 2017, 2018 and 2019, the city of milan cancelled the 2020 edition due to coronavirus (COVID-19), and the award program was postponed for one year. the fourth edition of THE DESIGN PRIZE adapts to the current situation by taking a slightly different approach. instead of a gala event, designboom honors the 2021 recipients by traveling to meet them around the world and hand over the golden madonnina statuettes, designed by antonio aricò, in person. all reports and insights about the 2021 winners and their creative processes can be found below.
