artificial intelligence is a wondrous thing and there’s very little in life these days that doesn’t include machine learning in some way. there’s no doubt that 2020 has been a rollercoaster, and even though it might feel like the world is burning, advancements in consumer technology continue to flourish. with AI being used more and more for entertainment purposes, new gadgets developing all the time and young youtubers eagerly awaiting the latest must-have toys to fawn over, intelligent marketing tech company, adzooma, has been wondering: ‘can we predict what the top-selling gadgets and toys of 2020 will be by using AI?’

turning to a simple open-source GPT-2 text generator, adzooma has input collated data that highlighted the top-selling gadgets and toys over the last 50 years. in this way, it was made possible to ‘ask’ the generator to come up with a list of ‘product’ names; the result was…interesting. using the new-found information, adzooma set about designing what they thought some of these predictions might look like. ‘honestly, we really wouldn’t mind if some of these became a reality. others, not so much…’ the company shares.

can AI predict buying trends? absolutely. can AI help steer a market? of course. is AI capable of being politically correct and mindful of what could be considered sensitive subjects? that’s up to question… some of the predictions include ‘tear it out!’ which seems to be a stellar crossover between the classic game of ‘kerplunk’ and early-onset male pattern baldness. also, ‘goggle’ appears to merge the original word search game ‘boggle’ with the great wide interweb and its latest trends. last but not least, ‘hairy babies’ is the perfect gift for any kid you don’t like – available in 4 different shades of real yeti hair!
