UK-based startup charge automotive has announced it is putting an all-electric mustang into production. in partnership with arrival, known for their electric trucks used by the royal mail, UPS, roborace, and michelin, the company will pack a 300-kilowatt electric motor and a 64 kilowatt-hour battery pack into classic 1960s-style mustang body shells licensed from ford. a limited edition of 499 will be available.

charge claims each electric mustang will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.09 seconds. the battery produces 300kW and 1,200nm – that’s just over 400bhp and a whopping 885lb ft of torque. range is estimated at 124 miles.

rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive modes are both available and charge says each mustang will be equipped with ‘state of the art components and a personalised digital interface‘. a trailer showing off the mustang reveals a large touchscreen on the center stack where users can switch between modes. they’ll be priced from $255,509 and ship to buyers in september next year. they are taking reservations with a £5,000 deposit right now.
