SPEED UP THE DEVELOPMENT OF a EUROPEAN HYPERLOOP NETWORK

the european commission has awarded 15M euros to the dutch company hardt. the goal is to fasten the development of an hyperloop infrastructure. this grant is part of the european green deal, which aims to achieve ambitious goals in sustainable mobility. the EU considers this future means of transport as a lower emission alternative compared to flights, and a faster substitute to high-speed trains.

we previously covered the UNStudio proposal for a futuristic amsterdam hyperloop station. a first route between the dutch capital and rotterdam is reportedly planned to be established within a decade.

PART OF THE EU GREEN DEAL TO REDUCE EMISSIONS BY 2050

the hyperloop vehicles move autonomously through low-pressure tubes, powered by an entirely electromagnetic propulsion system, making travel with the hyperloop energy-efficient and completely co2-neutral. the hyperloop thus responds to the growing demand for a sustainable solution to (high-speed) transport for both people and goods.

BOTH PASSENGERS AND CARGO

this large sum of money will also help the development of a european hyperloop center in groningen, netherlands, together with a test facility. hardt engineers will use the site to experiment an advanced lane switching system, which is key for the future european tubular network.

‘it’s great to have now gained the trust of the european commission.’  says tim houter, co-founder of hardt hyperloop. their support will help to accelerate the development of a european hyperloop network, bringing us much closer to significant co2 savings. european cities will be connected smarter, faster and cheaper.’
