apple has a new version of its wireless earbuds that feature noise-cancelling technology and sweat resistance. the latest iteration also addresses an issue some people had with the classic airpods — the fit.

each earbud comes with three different sizes of soft, flexible silicone ear tips that conform to the contours of each individual ear. to further maximize comfort, apple uses an innovative vent system to equalize pressure, minimizing the discomfort common in other in-ear designs.

the all-new design features active noise cancellation, which uses two microphones combined with advanced software to continuously adapt to each individual ear. the first microphone is outward-facing and detects external sound to analyze environmental noise and create an equivalent anti-noise that cancels out background noise.

a second inward-facing microphone listens toward the ear, and airpods pro cancel remaining noise detected by the microphone. noise cancellation continuously adapts the sound signal 200 times per second. the company has also integrated adaptive EQ to tune the low- and mid-frequencies in real-time depending on the shape of your ears.

the size and performance of airpods pro are made possible by apple’s innovative system-in-package (SiP) design, featuring the h1 chip that powers everything from sound to siri

the airpods pro also feature a transparency mode that provides users with the option to listen to music while still hearing the environment around them. this adds a layer of safety for users who are out for a run or are perhaps waiting for an important train announcement during their morning commute. switching between modes is made simple and easy by squeezing the bottom of the earbuds between their fingertips.

a quick tap on the volume slider in control center makes it easy to switch between active noise cancellation and transparency modes

like previous airpods, the airpods pro have up to five hours of listening time. in active noise cancellation mode, airpods pro deliver up to four and a half hours of listening time and up to three and a half hours of talk time on a single charge. using the wireless charging case for additional charges should deliver over 24 hours of listening time or over 18 hours of talk time, according to apple.
